Central Universities in India

The Government of India has set up Central Universities in India under the jurisdiction of the Union Government through an act of the Parliament. While the state sets up its universities at its level, the centre has established 34 central universities in different states of the country. Delhi the capital has the highest number of central universities, with Uttar Pradesh, while three such universities are in Andhra Pradesh and two each in Assam and Manipur. Twenty states have one central university while three new universities are coming up in the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand as well as in Himachal Pradesh. With the increasing demand for higher education in the country more central universities have been proposed in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Central Universities in Delhi

The Central Universities in Delhi are empowered by the Central Government's special act of the Constitution. Hence it maintains a standard that promotes the educational development of the students. Besides, research and development in technical institutions would also need to be advanced. The President of India is a visitor at all central universities including Delhi. Vice Chancellors, Court as well as Selection Committee Nominees are appointed by the President assisted by the Ministry of Human Resources.

Apart from Delhi there are Central Universities in Hyderabad, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and several other states that offer higher education to students in the state. To ensure the co-operation and functioning of both the state and the centre run universities, an apex body, the (CABE) Central Advisory Board of Education has been set up by the Government of India.

Some of the new central universities are Central University of Kerala, Central University of Jharkhand, Central University of Punjab, Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya, Central University of Bihar, Central University of Haryana, Central University of Jammu & Kashmir, Central University of Gujarat, Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Central University of Orissa, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Central University of Karnataka and Central University of Rajasthan.

Many enquiries have been registered with regard to MBA job vacancies in the central universities of India. With plans for setting up of many new universities on the anvil, openings in the academic field for MBA students are promising in central universities. As per university rankings of central universities, they are included along with the others. The University of Delhi ranks 3rd among the total number of 320 state and central universities. On the 11 rank is Delhi Institute of Technology while Jawaharlal University bags the 9th rank.
