Set up in 1639 as a technical high school it was established in 1940 as Delhi Polytechnic and now Delhi Technological University as it is called today was formerly Delhi College of engineering DCU which ranks among the top ten engineering colleges in India. Several streams are offered under its massive portals viz. engineering, science, architecture, arts, commerce, chemical engineering and technology and textiles.
The building has facets of British and Mughal architecture with the founder of Delhi Polytechnic, Prof. Walter William Wood who is renowned as the father of technical education in India. B.E. engineering degrees were awarded since 1952 by Delhi Polytechnic.
Today the engineering training is devised in ten branches at the level of graduation. There are full time courses with 570 trainees as well as part time courses in four streams at the B. Tech. degree levels. Eleven fields are open to post graduates in engineering and science.
