Stella Maris College is a catholic institute of higher education for women and it is one of the most popular women colleges in India. This college was initiated on 15th August 1947, with the enrollment of 32 students at that time. The college is administered by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary. During its initial period, the college started their undergraduate program with Western Music and History of Fine Arts and post graduate program with Social Work. This was the first women college in Madras and it offers M.A in Indian Music, English, Economics and Fine Arts. The vision of the college was to build an inclusive learning community in a culture which effects social change.
The mission of the college is to provide power to the girls to face the challenges of day-to-day life with pride and dignity. Now the college has completed its 60th years of service. The college has very strict rules and regulations i.e. the attendance of the student is 75% and if any student had not attained 75% then she will not be allowed to give any exam of their semesters.
Alumni
Stella Maris College Chennai also organizes Alumni functions for the students. The main objective of this function is to
- Promote companionship among alumnae and get in touch with Alma Mater.
- To ease the creative involvement in the progress of the college.
This function is mainly organized for making the future better for the present students. In this function ex-students are invited so that they can come and tell the present students about their experience and the demands in present job market. This will help the students to face the challenges of the life and successfully meet the demands of the career.
Courses
Now, the college has a wide variety of courses for the students. The college imparts the best knowledge to the students so that they can make their future bright. The courses offered by the college includes B.A, B.SC, B.com, BSW, BCA, BVA, M.A, M.SC, M.com, MCA, MSW, MVA, PG Diploma, M Phil, Ph.D. Only 10+2 passed students are eligible to apply for undergraduate courses and the students who have their bachelor's degree in their hand can only apply for the Master's degree. |
