Ethiraj College for women was started in 1948 by Shri V.L. Ethiraj to provide quality education to women by putting higher stress on Values and Tradition. The college follows a divine policy i.e. "To strive, to seek, to find and not to yield". Shri V.L. Ethiraj believes that educating a man is educating an individual but educating a woman is educating the entire family. The vision for operating this college is to attain economic and social equity for women by providing them some applications of relevant knowledge. The mission of the college is to provide the right place for the women in the society by offering high level of education to them.
The college is situated in the heart of Chennai city. It is only from the vision and the joint efforts of the teachers and students that the college was awarded with five stars by NAAC. Ethiraj College also offers hostel facility for students from outside the state. The college has also won the national awards for their contribution towards the nation's culture and educational heritage. It also organizes alumni and culturals for the student's interest. R.M. Courses
At present, the college is counted in top 5 colleges in Chennai due to its way of providing knowledge and the strict disciplines of the students in the college. The courses which are offered by the college under undergraduate programs include B.A, B.SC, B.Com, BBA, and BCA courses. Programs under post graduate include M.A, M.com, M.SC, MBA, and MCA. The college further offers research programs like M.Phil, and PH.D. The above courses are made available in various languages i.e. English, Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit and French.
