A Chartered Accountant is authorized to practice his profession only if he possesses a certificate of practice under the chartered accountants act 1949. Members registered under the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India are awarded the designation 'CA'. Hence a CA is authorized to be a professional chartered accountant. Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

ICAI is the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India set up as a statutory body that monitors and regulates the profession of Chartered Accountants in India as per the chartered accountants act of 1949. The ICAI is the second largest body of accounting worldwide and besides being recognized in India is known globally. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is responsible for the conduct of examinations, assessment, awarding of certificates besides conducting training to candidates to more that 1,60,000 candidates registered under it. Chartered Accountant Exam India

The websites have declared dates of Chartered Accountant Exams viz as May 2010 CA Exams. The PCE & IPCE Hindi Medium Candidates exam date is scheduled for 14 May 2010. Notification has been issued for ISA-AT-June-2010 for 13 May 2010. The information regarding change of examination centers has already been released. Students can download information from the website regarding exam details, exam procedures etc. The announcements for the Chartered Accountants Examination in India have been made for May 2010. Students can log on to the website for common proficiency test syllabus, exam forms as well as procedure for obtaining mark sheet, pass certificate etc. Students also can do their articleship in chartered accountant firms while continuing the course.

Chartered Accountant Syllabus

The chartered accountant exam in India is at different levels viz. the entry level test known as the common proficiency test or CPT as it is popularly known. This Common Proficiency Test comprises of two sessions each having two subjects. On the successful completion of this CPT the IPCC or Integrated Professional Course consists of two groups with four papers in the first group followed by three papers in the next. The final exam concludes the Chartered Accountant Exam with four papers in each of the two groups. The chartered accountant course syllabus covers four papers viz. financial reporting, strategic financial management, advanced auditing and professional ethics besides information systems control and audit being the group one papers for the chartered accountant course. The Group two Papers comprise of Advance Management Accounting, Information Systems Control and Audit, Direct and Indirect Tax Laws. Chartered accountant entrance exam and CA results are provided on ICAI websites.
